Are You Hurting Your Pet’s? Lets Find Out!

A lot of pet lovers hurt their dogs almost on a daily basis without actually knowing it. The truth is no
dog lover will ever want to hurt their little friend, at least not deliberately. Most times these pet lovers
thought they were actually taking care of their dog, doing it lots of good but the opposite is most often
the case.
Dogs are very sensitive pets and any harm whether done intentionally or unknowingly is no less
painful to them. As such as a pet lover it is best you understand your dog and what irritates or can
harm it and learn to control such conditions.
In this guide, we have provided you with a few things that seem right but actually ends up harming your
pets either physically or emotionally and you should do well to avoid them at all cost.

Let’s find out what are those!

Lack of routine and rules
Routines and rules are very important. They spell out our duties and responsibilities. They give
structure and a sense of ‘what-to-do-next’ to our lives. In times of confusion, rules and routines help
us make confident decisions.
Just as you need rules and routines to have a meaningful life, your pet also needs them to add
structure to its life.
Take for instance; if you feed your dog after ringing a bell every day for a few weeks, your dog will
start salivating at the sound of the bell even when the food is not yet in sight. This is actually called
the Pavlov dog experiment.

Dogs are extremely habitual animals and a little variation in their daily lives can throw them into
confusion. As such it is best that you train your dog to follow a particular routine and make its rules as
few and clear as possible. This way it’ll know what it needs to do at every time of the day and become
more confident around you.

Leaving them alone in the car
Never ever leave your dog alone in the car with the windows closed. Researches have shown that the
temperature within a closed car can rise often as high as 20 degree in every 10 minutes!
Unlike us, dogs do not sweat and as such can become very uncomfortable in such an environment. If
you're leaving your car its best you take your pet with you or at best do not stay out for more than a
few minutes.

Neglecting their teeth
The teeth are an important part of your dog’s body. Like ours, the teeth are used for eating and for
picking up literally everything.
As such they are often home to hundreds of bacteria. Taking care of your dog’s teeth should go
beyond the chewing sticks most dog owners are accustomed to giving to their pets. You should get a
dog’s toothpaste and brush and brush your pets’ teeth as often as you can
When it comes to brushing the earlier the better, so if your dog is still a little puppy, you should start
early so brushing becomes a part of its daily routine.
Letting them eat everything
Giving dogs human food is among the top ways most dog owners harm their pet thinking they are
actually caring for it.
Your dog’s alimentary canal is quite different from yours just as its nutritional requirements are
different. Most times the foods you eat are too spicy, too fatty or too salty for your dog. In fact,
human foods are way too toxic for your dog and you should avoid feeding them with it, even little
crumbles from the table.

Taking the little puppy to a dog park
It’s a good thing to take your pet to the park once in a while. This allows it to mingle with its own
species and not feel like it is the only one left in the world.
In as such as this is a good for your dog, you shouldn’t forget that dogs can be passive carriers of
diseases. This can easily be transferred to your pet. Also, if you're visiting a park with your little
puppy, you may want to keep an eye on it as larger dogs often are rough while playing and may end
up harming your little pet.

Exposing them to strong smells
How do you feel when you walk in the same room with someone wearing excessive perfume? I guess
irritated or probably nauseated.
Dogs have about 1000-10,000 times of your ability to perceive scents. Now think how much nauseated
they will feel when sprayed with perfume or brought close to a particularly strong smelling
substance.
It wouldn’t feel pleasant at all. As such you may want to protect your pet from your perfume and any
other strong smelling chemicals as much as possible.

Using physical punishments
It’s good you discipline your pet but physical punishment should never be the way to do it. For one,
physically punishing your pet constitutes animal abuse.
Secondly, physical punishment doesn’t really work when it comes to disciplining a pet. It only makes
your pet afraid of you and act timidly but it does not in any way teach it a lesson or how to correct its
bad behavior.

Leaving your dog al0ne in car
